African development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

International Peace Pals invites children throughout the world between the ages of 5 and 16 to participate in The Annual International Peace Pals Art Competition and Exhibition. Entries are divided into four age categories for the awarding of prizes: 5-7 years, 8-10 years, 11-13 years, and 14-16 years of age.

For 2014, the theme is "Right to Peace". Peace Pals has joined with The International Day of Peace (IDP) (September 21 each year) and the United Nations. Please click here  for more information about The International Day of Peace. To learn more about the "Right to Peace," please read the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

From Peace Pals: "Questions include:
Who has the right to peace?
What would the world look like if everyone lived in peace?
How does the United Nations help to build a peaceful world?
What will you do to make sure all people have a "Right to Peace? "

Think about these questions and create artwork which symbolizes what a "Right to Peace," means to you.  Your artwork MUST include the message, "May Peace Prevail On Earth" in English and/or your Native Language. All art must be done by children, including the writing of May Peace Prevail On Earth."

Rules for the competition are:

  • Each artwork must include the message: "May Peace Prevail On Earth" in English and/or in the entrant's native language. All art must be done by children without adult help, including the writing of "May Peace Prevail On Earth" in English and/or in the entrant's native language.
  • Size: A single dimension measuring 5"x 7" (12.7 cm x 17.7 cm) in either a horizontal or vertical format, or work may be in photo or video format.
  • The design: This may be drawn, sketched, or painted in any style on paper or cardboard. However, no organic elements or loose items can be used.
  • The number of entries: Entries from each person are unlimited.
  • Information required: On the reverse side of the artwork, the following information should be typed on an adhesive label or printed legibly: full name, age, address, city, and country. (If sending multiple entries as a school, also include: school or institution and grade. If participants wish to receive a paper copy of the electronically downloadable certificate, please include with the entry a self-addressed return mailing envelope for a certificate of participation).
