African development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Second Edition
SummaryText
Published by EngenderHealth and Planned Parenthood Association of South Africa (PPASA), this manual was produced to be used within EngenderHealth's Men As Partners (MAP) programme, a global initiative designed to work with men on reproductive health issues within a gender framework. PPASA MAP facilitators use the manual to lead workshops with groups of men and mixed-gender groups.

The manual begins with an overview of the Men As Partners programme and philosophy, as well as tips for designing a training programme. It then provides training activities and exercises, including how to start the workshop with introductions and ice breakers. Subsequent sections focus on various health issues such as gender and sexuality, male and female sexual health, and HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections. The final sections examine violence, awareness of sexual violence, and domestic violence. The manual also provides fact sheets for additional reference.
