African development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SummaryText
Published by Action Institute For Environment Health And Development Communication (Action IEHDC) in Zimbabwe, this toolkit is designed to be used by facilitators and peer educators to conduct discussions around sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). According to Action IEHDC, young people need information about sexual and reproductive health (sexuality and intimacy, contraceptive use for dual protection, safer sex, sexually transmitted infections, etc) and where to obtain sexual and reproductive health services. They need skills and self-efficacy to be able to discuss and negotiate sex with partners, and discuss contraception and condoms with partners, parents, and other adults.
This toolkit was developed to accompany radio talk shows produced as part of the "Wize Up, Your Decision, Your Life” campaign. Action IEHDC developed the radio talk shows, working with community radio stations to record and air them. To ensure wider reach, Action IEHDC engaged community radio stations based in 5 provinces across the country to play the recorded talk shows to their community radio listeners clubs. Facilitators received this discussion guide, as well as registers and monthly feedback forms.
The "Wize Up, Your Decision, Your Life” campaign is part of a wider SRHR regional initiative led by the Soul City Institute for Health and Development Communication, focusing on young people between the ages of 15 and 24 years.
