African development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at lainiciativadecomunicacion.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SummaryText
Published by the Congolese Women Journalists’ Association (UCOFEM) and Observatoire de Pavie, this is a guide for journalists on how to improve women’s image in the Congolese media.
The guide presents the results of a media monitoring conducted by UCOFEM in September 2013, providing an overview on the current state of women's image in the Congolese media, as well as key recommendations with regard to the positive role that media professionals can play in the promotion of gender equality. The monitoring section provides concrete case studies highlighting good and bad practices with regard to women's inclusion in the media, while the recommendations section provides concrete tips to help journalists break down gender stereotypes and promote equal, respectful gender relationships.
The guide was developed with the support of France Expertise Internationale (FEI), UKaid, the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) and the French Development Cooperation.
