African development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SummaryText
This booklet is a compilation of articles on fighting HIV/AIDS in Africa that have appeared recently in Africa Renewal, a magazine produced by the United Nations Department of Public Information. The 3rd edition of Silent No More was published in August 2005.

Silent No More brings together stories on how the battle against HIV/AIDS is being fought in Africa and what more needs to be done to combat it in the region. In this special compilation issue, UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan speaks out, calling HIV/AIDS a "real weapon of mass destruction".

Other articles look at:
  • what men can do to make a difference
  • preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS among soldiers
  • action needed to protect women against HIV infection
  • making affordable and effective treatment available to all
  • how Senegal and Uganda lowered infection rates
  • Botswana's commitment to providing treatment for all HIV+ people
  • the economic and social toll of the epidemic in South Africa
  • UNAIDS/WHO 3x5 Campaign
