African development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at lainiciativadecomunicacion.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Classification System of Social Media Spaces

0 comments

Hello everyone! This week I will start with another large piece of monitoring - to identify 50 social media spaces with focus on health related issues and 50 - on children related issues. There are huge variety of groups and public pages focused on these topics (brands of children products, specific media, NGOs, governmental institutions, open groups for discussions). So I would like to ask your advice about classification system and what groups should be included to the final list. My idea is:

1. To identify major groups by number of followers;

2. To classify them by category (media, brand, page of NGO, governmental institution, open/closed group for discussions on particular topic)

3. To make initial assesment towards immunization/child vaccination topic (positive/negative/neutral).

This method might not discover lots of immunization-related conversations, but help us to understand where those conversation appear.

All your recommendation or ideas (maybe to look only for any specific social media spaces?) are very welcome!

Anna
