Investigative Grants for Pan African Land Grabbing

According to Forum for African Investigative Reporters (FAIR), escalating energy and food prices have triggered a global scramble for Africa's land and water resources. Eager to feed their growing populations, countries are buying up prime farmland in Africa at rock bottom prices. Do land investments on the continent represent a solution to food insecurity or is it a new form of colonialism? GRAIN reports that most land deals in Africa involve large-scale, industrial agriculture operations that will consume massive amounts of water. Nearly all of them are located in major river basins with access to irrigation. For this reason, FAIR is offering investigative grants and is requesting members to submit story proposals to investigate cases of land expropriation, illegal sales, forced removals, and depletion of natural resources.
