SummaryText
In January 2006, documentary film director Ditte Haarløv-Johnsen followed Hopangalatana theatre group and documented their working methods with forum theatre, which they had learned from Peter Sloth Madsen.
This documentary, available online (see below), deals with theatre and communication for development. The documentary includes an example of the interactive forum theatre method being used for creating debate and dialogue on HIV/AIDS issues such as stigmatisation, domestic violence, HIV testing, and sexual abuse. The theatre production filmed for the DVD was a collaboration between Danish actor and dramaturge Peter Sloth Madsen and the Mozambican theatre group, Hopangalatana, which was organised in Maputo, Mozambique, in January - March 2005.
The documentary also includes three interviews with specialists working with theatre, communication, or development. The actor, director, and playwright Lena Bjorn talks about her professional experience with forum theatre in Denmark and Uganda. Thomas Tufte talks about education-entertainment (edutainment) and his research experiences dealing with forum theatre as well as other media strategies, such as those of Soul City. There is also an interview with dramaturge Torunn Kjolner, who speaks about his perspectives on theatre-in-education.
Editor's note: There are additional videos available on forum theatre about HIV/AIDS awareness.
