African development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at lainiciativadecomunicacion.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Values Book, The

SummaryText
This book forms part of the Heartlines initiative which is aimed at promoting values-based transformation in South Africa and beyond. The initative revolves around a television series which looks at issues such as HIV&AIDS, racism, corruption, unemployment, poverty and family breakdown. The series consists of eight films – each addressing a different value - which tackle these social issues from a Christian world view.

The Values Book is designed for leaders in Christian communities across South Africa to be used as a tool in encouraging their communities to live out godly values. The book contains Bible notes as well as practical notes about each of the eight values, which are presented in order of broadcast. The book may be used in conjunction with the television films, but even if the films have not been viewed the book aims to serve as a useful resource for Bible teaching.

According to the publishers the eight values provide a useful outline of how to facilitate a discussion group in a community. The book aims to be merely a guide - "Regarding the use of The Values Book, we do not wish in any way to be prescriptive. However, it is important to note that a discussion group is a powerful platform for teaching and internalisation of concepts and ideas that have been triggered by the viewing of the films …"

The book is structured according to the values dealt with in each television programme:
