African development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SummaryText
This advocacy toolkit was developed to help children and youth advocate for their right to an education. It includes ideas, tools, and inspiring stories to encourage action and is meant for "anyone who believes passionately in the power of education as a force for good in the world and the right for all children to get a good quality education, no matter where they are and what the circumstances."

Published Plan International, in partnership with A World at School and the Youth Advocacy Group of the Global Education First Initiative, the toolkit consists of a guide for youth and a guide for facilitators. The youth guide includes real stories of young people advocating for change around the globe, as well as guidelines for action. It consists of four parts:
  • Part 1: Introduction - looks at the concept of advocacy;
  • Part 2: "Understand It" - looks at how to choose an issue and carry out research to better understand it;
  • Part 3: "Plan It" - offers guidance on idenfiying target audiences, messaging, and advocacy methods;
  • Part 4: "Do It" - offers guidance on lobbying, campaign, mobilising, and using media and communications.
The facilitator’s guide is intended to accompany the youth-focused guide and provides a wide range of workshop activities, techniques, and tips for working with youth to develop education advocacy campaigns.
