African development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Women’s Voices Now (WVN), a not-for-profit social enterprise based in New York, in the United States, is calling for film submissions for Women’s Voices from the Muslim World: A Short-Film Festival. The festival is open to filmmakers of all genders, nationalities, and faiths. Awards possibilities include US$35,000 in prize money. The films in this competition will be available for viewing/rating/commenting online in early September, and there will be a viewing festival in Los Angeles, California, United States (US), in March 2011, as well as viewing and panel discussions: Washington, DC, US, November 12 2010 and New York, NY, US, November 29 2010.

The festival aims to give voice to women of all faiths living in Muslim-majority countries and Muslim women living as minorities around the globe. The festival is a project that intends to highlight pro-women voices from within the Muslim world and present an unfiltered and honest account of these women’s stories, focusing on "the struggle for freedom of expression and inalienable human rights".
