African development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

UNESCO Project Proposals on Peace and Dialogue

The Power of Peace Network (PPN) of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is calling for proposals of projects related to the promotion of peace and dialogue and focusing on young people.

PPN encourages initiatives promoting peace and dialogue among different groups, different countries or regions, and different communities and organisations. In order to further the goals of PPN, UNESCO is seeking funding proposals for concrete and executable projects on peace related to young people. Projects with strong online components are encouraged, as they will contribute to enriching the PPN website, which is currently being developed.

There are no restrictions as to who may submit a proposal. Schools, universities, non-governmental organisations, as well as individuals are invited to participate in this process.

The proposals should include the information about the project’s objectives, group in focus, implementation, and evaluation including:

  1. "Objectives of the project: What is to be accomplished by the end of the project? You may also include intermediate goals (what you hope to achieve at specific points of the implementation of the project).
  2.  The stakeholders or targeted group: Who are the stakeholders with interests in the project? Who will benefit from the project? It would be helpful to identify the specific beneficiaries rather than simply stating as "youth". For example, geographic or demographic descriptions could be included.
  3. Implementation: How will the project will be executed and implemented? Who will be involved and be responsible for which item? Include a reasonable timeframe for commencement and completion.
  4. Indicators and Evaluation: How do you plan to evaluate or gauge the success of the project? What are the criteria or benchmarks
  5. Budget: Provide a budget breakdown of the project. This will also serve as a guideline for further discussion when the proposal has been selected.
  6. Contact Information: Names, emails, telephone numbers, postal address, etc."
