Soul Beat Africa
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.
 
Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.
 
We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

In October 2013, from South Africa, non-governmental organisation (NGO) Heartlines brings you "Nothing for Mahala", a film about a man whose love for money comes at a high cost.

From the website: "Thapelo Mokoena plays the role of Axe Gumede, an up-and-coming property agent who is determined to make his mark, one Randela and flashy car at a time. When his lavish lifestyle lands him in trouble with loan sharks and the law, Axe is sentenced to community service at an old-age home. Here he meets Hendrik (Marius Weyers) a grumpy, miserable old man. Axe and Hendrik are forced to get along and realise they have more in common than meets the eye. Their journey is a comedic clash of cultures and the only question remaining is what mark Axe will ultimately make."
