African development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SummaryText
Published by Nigeria Community Radio Coalition, an umbrella body for community radio development activities comprising about 200 organisations and individuals in Nigeria, the Media Policy Briefings are an ongoing publication series on the development of media policy and community radio in Nigeria. The series is designed to provide information and education to stakeholders and the general public within and outside Nigeria on issues essential to the development of a sustainable community radio sub-sector in the country.

The first edition of Media Policy Briefing reviewed key issues and policies relevant to community radio development. The second issue builds on the foundation laid by the first edition by focusing on digitisation of broadcasting, one of the most current and prominent issues on the communication landscape. The third issue looks at salient issues in Nigeria's broadcasting laws and the fourth issue focuses on the country’s broadcasting policy reform efforts.
