Lukia's Story - Storybook for Children on ARVs
Image

SummaryText
Produced by the Health Communication Partnership (HCP) and Joint Clinical Research Centre (JCRC) in Uganda, this book was developed as a tool to help foster more open discussion among children and their caregivers on anti-retroviral (ARV) treatment (ART) in order to help improve adherence. JCRC works to provide ART for children with AIDS and recognised the challenges that parents, guardians, and caregivers face when talking with children about their disease and their treatment.
Lukia's Story was developed through a series of focus group discussions and a workshop with HIV-positive children on ART. These 8- to 12-year-olds came up with story ideas and characters based on their own experiences.
The book was funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
