African development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

How can we lay the foundation for a more just and peaceful world? How can we prevent communications from fracturing and societies from tearing themselves apart? How should we prioritize economic, social, and cultural demands for resources and opportunities?

International Development answers these questions and presents a view of development "in practice." Written by experts in the field, this book covers a range of contemporary developments, as well as providing coverage of the theory and practice of international development.

The book:

  • Covers a range of contemporary topics such as global security, new technologies, ethics and learning, and participation
  • Has chapters on Global Health and Development in Practice, Environmentally Sustainable Development in Practice and Corruption and Development
  • Features learning objectives, summaries, reading lists and questions for discussion
  • Works as a practice-driven text packed with case studies

Global in perspective, this is your go-to book for your studies in international development.
