After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.
 
Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.
 
We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Flamingo Awards for Business and Financial Journalism 2014

The Institute of Financial & Economic Journalists (IFEJ) in Ghana is inviting entries from fully subscribed members for this first edition of IFEJ Flamingo Awards for Business and Financial Journalism 2014. According to IFEJ, the award will recognise journalists and editors who provide high quality coverage of the business environment in Ghana. IFEJ believes that better, accurate and in depth reporting on the economy will generate more business interest and a better informed public on the Ghanaian business environment.

The award categories are as follows:

  • Best information and communication technology (ICT) feature
  • Best finance feature
  • Best extractives feature
  • Best agribusiness feature
  • Best tourism feature
  • Best business feature
  • Best developmental feature
  • Best rural banking/micro finance and micro enterprise feature
  • Best news story
  • Best business of health feature

Application Info

Applicants are advised to meet the following criteria:

  • Applicants must be fully paid up members of the Institute of Financial and Economic Journalists (IFEJ).
  • Applicants can only enter a maximum of three categories. Each article shall only be submitted once. In instances where more than three entries are submitted, only the first three will be considered. In instances where a piece is submitted more than once it will only be considered for the first category it was entered. There is a wide selection of categories, so select the category most relevant to your story.
  • Applicants are strictly limited to a maximum of TWO different articles in each category of the competition.
  • Submitted pieces should be a feature or series of related features
    delivered on any media platform (print, broadcast, online). Features should
    NOT be more than 1,300 words or more than 20 minutes of air time.
  • Entries must be accompanied with a brief synopsis of not more than 300 words describing the article.
  • Submission details to be provided for each piece as follows: Titles of Article(s);Publication(s)/Programme(s); Date of Publication/broadcast; and Medium of Publication or Broadcast.
  • Seven copies of each category must be presented.
  • The competition will be judged by a panel of distinguished, independent jury with appropriate knowledge and experience of journalistic practices.
  • The jury reserves the right to transfer entries for consideration in other categories at their discretion.
  • The jury upholds the integrity and reputation of the Awards and reserves the right to disqualify any piece of work and/or finalist if, in the jury’s opinion, there exists reasonable doubt about the authenticity and/or accuracy of the submitted entry and/or the integrity of the finalists.
  • The decision of the jury is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
