A Survey
Help us serve you better!
As you may know Soul Beat Africa forms part of The Communication Initiative (The CI). Currently, The CI network includes: The Communication Initiative - in English, with a worldwide overview and focus; Soul Beat Africa - in English, with a focus on the African experience and context and La Iniciativa de Comunicacion - in Spanish, with a worldwide overview and focus on the Latin American experience and context.
The CI network offers an online space for sharing the experiences of, and building bridges between, the people and organisations engaged in or supporting communication for economic and social development and change. We do this through a process of initiating dialogue and debate and by giving the network a stronger, more representative and informed voice with which to advance the use and improve the impact of communication for development. This process is supported by a web-based resource of summarised information and several electronic publications, as well as online research, review and discussion platforms providing insight into communication for development experiences.
In this issue of The Soul Beat, we take a break from our usual fare of development and communication knowledge, information and contacts to request that you provide us with valuable knowledge and feedback of your own. That is, we ask that you take the 15-20 minutes you might spend reading a normal Soul Beat to fill out our new Communication Initiative online user and contributor survey:

If you are a subscriber of The Soul Beat as well as The Drum Beat or the Son de Tambora we apologise for the fact that you are receiving the survey more than once.
The motivation and particulars of the survey process are described below. We hope you will take the time to provide us with your input. Many thanks!

A Survey of The Communication Initiative (The CI) Network
Through this survey we aim to learn more about you!
- Why do you engage with The Communication Initiative processes?
- How often do you visit the websites (The CI, La Iniciativa de Comunicación, Soul Beat Africa), make use of the electronic magazines, and participate in the interactive virtual processes?
- What is provided through The CI processes that is of value to you, if anything?
- What, if anything, does The CI do that is frustrating or unhelpful to you?
Responses to this survey will greatly increase The CI's ability to both respond to your interests and needs and engage and involve your analysis and perspectives for improved development action. The CI very much appreciates your participation, as this will help plan the next steps for improving the strategic response to your concerns, interests and priorities.

Results from the survey will be posted on The CI websites in mid 2006, so that you can learn what your colleagues and peers have to say about The CI. The survey is anonymous and your answers will not be publicly attached to your name or organisation at any time; please provide us with your frank assessment of our work. We value, and will draw upon, your honest feedback.
