An Almanac of Essays

This publication is a collaboration by schools and their students from primary school and high school in entering an essay competition in 2004. The essays were based on the topic: Building goodwill and better friendship in South Africa. The essays were never intended for publication, until Hollow Space Creations heard about them and contacted the competition organiser, one of the school principals. The publishers started working on putting the publication to being a compilation of what the youth of South Africa perceive can happen and what can be done to make South Africa a better place.

The book includes just under 40 essays and 15 poems from South African students between grade 4 to grade 11. Five schools took part offering support and assistance between the parents and Hollow Space Creations and the Midrand Rotary Club. The competition finalist, Nonjabulo Ndlovu, was offered a school bursary as a result of winning. According to the publishers, “Her essay is quite remarkable. The poetry is also of a high standard. It's honest and deeply moving, covering various subject matter.”
