After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.
 
Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.
 
We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

AfriComNet Awards for Excellence in Health Communication in Africa 2015

The African Network for Strategic Communication in Health and Development (AfriComNet) invites entries for the 2015 annual Awards for Excellence in Health Communication in Africa. The purpose of the AfriComNet Awards are to:

  • recognise outstanding contributions made by individuals/organisations in the field of strategic health communication;
  • encourage innovation and quality in strategic communication;
  • enhance appreciation of strategic communication as a necessary tool for effective health and development programmes; and
  • acknowledge programmes, tools, and productions that advance strategic communication and can be adapted and applied elsewhere.

Winners will be awarded in the following categories;

  • Best Mass media intervention, campaign, or production
  • Best Multi-channel communication intervention or campaign
  • Best Interpersonal/community initiative/intervention
  • Best Social marketing initiative, strategy, or campaign
  • Best Popular/folk media initiative
  • Best Health-related series
  • Best social/new media initiative

Two finalists in each of the award categories will be notified by April 30, 2015 about their selection. The finalists will receive a fully paid trip to the Awards Ceremony at a location to be confirmed and get an opportunity to make presentations about their initiatives to a group of health communication practitioners prior to the ceremony.

Application Info

To submit to the awards:

  • Complete a soft copy of the nomination form and email it to AfriComNet at infodesk@africomnet.org, clearly indicating the category in the subject line.
  • Include two printed (hard) copies of the completed nomination form and supporting materials should be sent to AfriComNet.
